Strong and simple risk management: The return of the Isle of Dogs Building Society

13:25 - 14:30
Thursday 9 May 2024

The Return of the Isle of Dogs Building Society. As part of the implementation of Basel II before the global financial crisis, the BSA and FSA ran a workshop that discussed a template ICAAP that was around 12 pages long. ICAAPs these days often run to hundreds of pages and in addition firms have to produce an ILAAP, Recovery Plan and from 2025, Solvent exit analysis. The PRA is seeking to simplify the regulatory regime under its Strong and Simple project, while continuing to support sound risk management. The purpose of this interactive workshop builds on the session at last year’s conference to consider how strong risk management can also be simple and how to streamline and remove the duplication across regulatory requirements. The discussion will consider whether a BSA Isle of Dogs regulatory toolkit can streamline the ICAAP, ILAAP and Recovery Plan, while demonstrating that a society can be solvently wound down without bringing in the retrievers!

This session is held under the Chatham House rule.
