Frances McCann

CEO
Scotwest Credit Union

Frances is a seasoned financial professional whose career spans over 36 years in the industry. Her journey began with a significant tenure at The Royal Bank of Scotland, where she spent 26 years harnessing a wealth of experience in various capacities. Frances’ time at RBS laid the foundation for her understanding of the financial services landscape, making her a respected figure in banking circles.

In a move that reflected her passion and beliefs, Frances transitioned to Scotwest Credit Union a decade ago. This shift was not just a career change but an opportunity to work towards building financial services that are fair and accessible to all. At Scotwest, her impact was transformative, culminating in her appointment as CEO in 2018. Under her leadership, Scotwest has flourished, championing the cause of credit unions and reinforcing Frances’ vision of a financial system that works for everyone.

A cornerstone achievement of Scotwest Credit Union was the establishment of a strategic partnership between Scotwest and Capital Credit Union. This alliance led to the creation of a shared service organisation, a pioneering move designed to provide a tier one banking platform to the two credit unions. An initiative that symbolized a commitment to collaboration; bringing excellence in service through visionary strategy, technology and expertise. Ensuring that members benefit from premier financial services delivered with efficiency and effectiveness.

Frances now leads Scotwest into its most significant collaboration to date, partnering with Capital Credit Union and Glasgow Credit Union to set up CU Share Limited, a new mutual organisation whose vision is to develop and offer services to the credit union sector and beyond.
