Charlie established The Foundation in 1999 to help organisations succeed by being customer not financially led.

Examples of projects worked on include helping supermarket Morrisons run a customer-led turnaround leading to a £1.2bn reversal in loss to profit over 7 years, helping Travelex create £100m of value through a customer-led proposition for a foreign currency payment cards, and helping Visa Europe establish contactless payment from 0% share in 2008 to 54% of all payments in the Euro area in 2022.

He co-authored The Customer Copernicus, completed in 2021, explaining why being customer-led is something that looks attractive and obvious but is in fact rare and temporary.

More recently he has worked with LNER, housing association VIVID, shoe brand Dr Martens and the National Trust to take steps towards becoming customer pioneers – organisations that succeed by going first in their sectors to make things better for customers.
