Dean started his career as an Engineering Officer in the Navy, then moved on to Electronics Manufacturing and later Financial Services. He began applying Continuous Improvement (CI) techniques 25 years ago at Sony Manufacturing through his roles in Process Engineering, Operations Management, Quality Management and General Management. He was selected to attend the first CI (Lean 6 Sigma) training for Sony in Europe to learn and then demonstrate how CI could add value. Following successful delivery of significant end to end improvements and process management approaches Dean was awarded the Sony Corporation President’s awards for Cost Reduction and CI deployment. He continued his learning and became qualified as a “Master” of Lean, 6 Sigma, Process Management and Design.

12 years ago Dean joined Lloyds Banking Group where he held the roles of Head of Business Transformation, Head of Strategic Change for General Insurance, Head of CI for Life & Pensions and then Head of CI for the combined Insurance Division (includes General Insurance, Life, Pensions and Investments). His roles included deploying Continuous Improvement to support the delivery of Lloyds Insurance Simplification and supporting the design and deployment of CI across Lloyds Group. He was also the Business Sponsor for the design and implementation of a new end to end workflow solution, a significant investment to modernise the infrastructure and better enable CI to deliver transformational service for customers and colleagues.

Two years ago Dean joined the Principality as Group Head Of CI, to establish and deliver a Cost Management strategy, applying CI techniques to deliver Cost benefits as a consequence of making improvements for Customers and Colleagues. Dean also covered the role as interim Head Of Transformation and in June last year became Head of CI, Operations Change & Planning. Significant benefits have been delivered to date, enabling the Principality to make improvements for Customers and Colleagues whilst creating the capacity to absorb strategic growth and invest in its Transformation. Dean and his team are continuing to develop the CI deployment approach as a prioritised strategic capability to fit the needs of the Principality through its ambitious Transformation.
